Morocco builds “Tech city”
Morocco has signed an agreement with the Chinese group Haite to build an “industrial city” near Tangier (north), which will host some 200 Chinese companies and is expected to create thousands of jobs.
During a ceremony presided over by the king of Morocco on Monday at the palace of Tangiers, the Moroccan authorities signed an agreement with the Haite Group, based in Chengdu (central China), and outlined the future.
Built on 2,000 hectares and carried by the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region, Haite and the Moroccan group BMCE Bank, this vast project follows a memorandum of understanding signed in May 2016 during an official visit of Mohammed VI to Beijing.
Mobilizing a one billion dollar envelope (930 million euros), it consists in “the construction of an economic pole capable of generating 100,000 jobs, of which a minimum of 90,000 jobs will benefit the inhabitants of the Tangier region”, According to the official presentation.
