First child of Prince Moulay Rachid is born
The Moroccan Royal Palace announced this Thursday, June 23, the first child of Prince Moulay Rachid, the king’s brother. This is a little boy who was named Moulay Ahmed.
The baby prince is the result of the union of Moulay Rachid with Lalla Umm Kulthum Boufarès, celebrated with great pomp in Rabat in November 2014.
In keeping with Moroccan tradition, a naming ceremony will take place on the seventh day after birth. But it is not yet known whether it will be marked by national celebrations as was the case for the king’s son, Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, now 13 years old.
A political role
Moulay Rachid, who just turned 46, is second in the order of monarchical succession, after Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan. He is especially the right arm of Mohammed VI and represents the king in events of international scope or with other monarchies.
