Tangier to host the Climate Change Forum
The city of Tangier will host, on 18 and 19 July, the Second Mediterranean Forum for Climate MedCOP the Climate, on the initiative of the Council of the Tangier-Tetouan region-Al Hoceima.
Under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI, this global event is in line with the challenges that raises the organization by Morocco of the 22th Conference of Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP22) to be held from 7 to 18 November in Marrakech, said a statement of the Regional Council.
Conscious of the fragility of the climate balance needed to preserve good living conditions and human development, 22 countries which constitute the Mediterranean will mobilize on this occasion and like the previous edition (MedCOP21), held on 4 and 5 June in Marseille at the initiative of the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur, to make their voices heard and decide, together, the fighting means against climate change and publishing adaptation.
This policy aims to express the word of the Mediterranean region and its specificities, as “global hub” ” and to include in the agenda solutions, and to promote the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs) and the exploitation of local goods. The initiatives is also to encourage multi-stakeholder approaches favorabling the generalization of good practice, and technological innovation, social, economic and financial, and enroll in the process of deploying solutions supported by cities and regions, companies, associations and research centers.
The High Mass also seeks to assert the voice of the Mediterranean in the negotiations and to mobilize stakeholders from all Mediterranean countries to find and deploy concrete solutions. The forum is, in this respect, an opportunity to put highlight the Moroccan experience in sustainable development, both in terms of major public policy choices that successful experiences in energy efficiency, conservation of fragile ecosystems (the oasis zones and those wet), and promotion alternative energy, with the adoption of the national plan of development of solar energy, added the same source.
A space for debate, exchange, creativity and decision, Mediterranean Forum for climate will be marked by the presence of more than 2,000 players in the Mediterranean area which will host two days, several conferences. The program of this Mediterranean Forum is the organization of thematic workshops, conferences and round tables on climate issues, in addition to the presentation a Medina solutions, which expresses the possibilities of circular economy on adaptation to climate change through creative and innovative solutions to serve the durabilty of the program.
