Badr Hari is awaiting verdict by Moroccan court
Marrakesh – New twist in the lawsuit between the Moroccan kick boxer Badr Hari in a SO-Lounge restaurant with the bartender in Marrakesh. The victim has decided to drop the charges against Badr Hari following a reconciliation between the two parties.
The victim has considered the status of Badr Hari, not wishing to harm his image. A possible financial compensation was demanded by the victim so that the charges may be dropped, and the athlete responded to his request.
This Tuesday, May 24, at 9 am, a document explaining the bartender’s desire to drop the charges was filed with the Court of First Instance of Marrakesh by the lawyer of the victim. Badr Hari was accused of “assault” under section 400 of the Criminal Code, which exposed him to a sentence of up to one year imprisonment.
The verdict will be pronounced by the court on May 31. As the victim dropped its prosecution, justice should impose a fine or, at worst, suspended sentence.
Even though this is the first time Badr Hari was presented before the Moroccan court Monday, May 16, following his arrest at Mohammed V airport in Casablanca two days earlier, he was already condemned for violence in the Netherlands.
The kickboxer was sentenced in October 2015 to two years in prison, ten-month suspended sentence and 40,000 euros in damages (approximately 430,000 dirhams). A penalty imposed following a series of physical assaults, including one committed against the Dutch businessman Koen Everink.
Badr Hari, accustomed to the escapades
Kickboxing champion is known for his prowess in the ring but also for his escapades echoed in the pages of celebrity magazines. Celebrities such as with Cristiano Ronaldo who was seen with the kickboxer several times. It was pointed out via a video posted on YouTube on October 9 showing Badr Hari trying to calm fans at the entrance of the Theatro in Marrakech. The latter, accompanied by his close friend, footballer Cristiano Ronald. “Do not shame me, I told Ronaldo that Morocco is a beautiful country and has a lot of fans here. If anyone misbehaves, I’ll hit him,” he explained.
