Morocco: Casablanca Smart City Expo
The first edition of Smart City Expo Casablanca opened Wednesday in the economic capital of the Kingdom, with the participation of various experts in urban technology.
The event, held over two days on the theme of “the open, inclusive and innovative city” which aims to mobilize the best development strategies for a smart metropolis of Casablanca and a modern attractive pole, with citizens as major players.
Speaking at the opening of the Smart City Expo Casablanca forum, the Minister for Foreign Trade, Mohamed Abbou, called for the rebuilding of the city through an approach placing the inhabitant in the center of the planning of urban management. “The road to the city of tomorrow will doubtless involve improving the performance of information systems in the city,” he said.
Far from being the preserve of large cities, the digital must be integrated into development policies for small and medium cities, said Mohamed Abbou, adding that the purpose of ensuring equality and territorial inclusion but also ensure the democratization of citizens’ access to various services such as urban information, training, health, etc.
The challenges imposed by increasing urbanization, according to the Minister, require a common reflection among all actors of the city, in the purpose of engaging in the path of a sustainable city that supports sustainability, equity and inclusion in the socio-economic development. “the result of this would be the emergence of cities connected and sustainable, able to manage, optimize resources smartly and innovate their service offerings, “he added, assuring that the Casa Smart City project is in this perspective and will be supported by an infrastructure telecommunications with international standards and enriched with e-gov service package developed under the Digital Morocco action plan.
